Yeah, thats what i thought, if it wasn't a bug, and was actually an implementation from Anet, then there would be a sign of it on their site, which there isn't last i looked.

Also seems to me like something of a gold sink, since skills get more expensive as one buys them. Running on quests for skills has the side effect of being much cheaper than buying them all. Early in the game, we all would do the quests to get them, then buy others as we progressed. Now, skills will cost 1k by the time we get to LA.

Heh, i don't care, ive enough money to buy everysingle skill and more, so.. I guess its just a benefit for the time being. Before they fix it, if they ever do?

On the other hand, if it IS a bug, it seems to be serious enough that a new build would've come out ASAP to fix it, wouldn't you think? Been like this for hours now. I mean, we already had a new build after the initial new build (to fix something obviously), but not one since to fix this?

I'm starting to believe this is intended 100% by ANet.

I think the explanation is that it's one of those core gameplay enhancements that, even though it's coming with Factions stuff, it's a basic game upgrade so everybody gets it. They're just giving it away early I guess.

Regarding why it was put in as part of Factions upgrade: (My guess, anyways)

It's now easier to sail over to Tyria from Cantha and quickly buy that Chapter 1-only non-elite you need for a build, instead of having to come over and play Prophecies PvE all the way to Ember Light Camp and buy it there or go find the <insert area skill trainer> who offers it earlier. Not only is it to add variety to repeat profession characters (which will give people incentive to replay Chapter 1 after Chapter 2 comes out because they can now vary their early-game builds), but it's also to minimize the amount of Chapter 1 content you'd have to play through to obtain some of these Chapter 1-only skills if you 1) already have them unlocked and 2) you're concentrating solely on the Cantha PvE campaign with that character.


On the other hand, it could just as well be a bug and all this speculation is moot. Who knows? LOL.

If it's a feature and not a bug, that would be a good incentive (at least for me) to replay in Tyria (normally) with a new customized build, instead of being powerleveled to the skill trainers and elite bosses I need (to bypass the unexciting skill trainer limitations). Well... it would be if I didn't already have everything I need. Two thumbs up! Too bad this feature didn't come a few months ago when I could have used it. It's still a good move for 'future veterans'.

False issues:

PvE will be easier: sure, but you can already complete it with no skill in your bar and henchmen. At least now the game's replayability is increased by an ability to play any original and weaker build based on remote skills.

Ascalon arena: it's a joke and you're kicked out of the arena with XP, so this arena is certainly not a good base to define the skill availability

New players vs old players: like the attribute points and 20 levels, the skill limitation was implemented for learning curve concerns. Yes veterans have access to better skills, but it's irrelevant because:
a/ they can already ask to be run by a friend/guildie,
b/ they don't *need* better skills since they know how to use basic ones better than newbies (oftentimes they want to use subpar/original builds just for fun),
c/ powerlevelers who will make an extensive use of this new feature don't play in PuGs anyway (henchmen and high level friends are incredibly faster and more reliable)
d/ you can already twink high-level rare weapons to boost lowbie warriors/rangers/assassins to breeze through low level areas. This unfair advantage of weapon-based professions is now partly fixed.

I would've found this really handy a couple months ago when I started my ranger. Wouldn't have needed to get a run to Droknar's just to play a trapper through anything but the last quarter of the game. But alas, all four of my characters have beaten the game by now.

Ah well, I guess if this is here to stay, my second factions character might benefit.

.. and for those suggesting it's to balance the game for Factions, what about those who -aren't- buying Factions, those people who are simply being introduced to Prophecies?

As for Frog Devourer's reply, your basic sense is, hey, it's already broken, so why bother?

That's how I'm reading it, at least.

this is a very good update. no more wasting time going through the missions again and again and again, getting the same skills you unlock previously for your new character..

I don't like it. I had no problem doing the same quests with my previous characters, I enjoyed it. I'm really wondering how boring will the first missions get when people will have access to all the skills they unlocked. You know, something like playing Great northern wall with a lvl 20....

If you have unlocked skills with previous char's then your new chars will get the skills to use on their game. I think this is great even though it doesn't benefit my 2 new chars I made.

As someone else pointed out - low levels can't just go and buy all the skills - you need to earn the skill points to buy them along with the gold.

No Skill points = No New Skills
